I have a drawer full of archived files. I have 5" floppies from junior high. I have 3.5" floppies from high school. I have cd's and zip disks from college. And I am now the proud owner of 2 (yes, count em!) Terra Bytes of external hard drive space. How sweet is that. Funny, we've come a long way in 15 or so years. Makes me wonder what will be the norm in another 15 years... PS - having 5" floppies makes me feel old. And sad, because I have no way to read them... and I'm sure there are some great english papers on those that would SO be worth reading. :) |

I got this message in my GD newsletter. Thought I'd share it.
TAKE FIVE! CAREER TIPS FROM THE CREATIVE GROUP: FIVE STEPS TO A PEACEFUL VACATION Summer’s here, and whether you’ve planned an across-the-world voyage or a “staycation,” chances are you may spend some time out of the office. To make the most of your break (and avoid a post-vacation work pileup) try the following five tips: 1. Use out-of-office functions. Leave messages on your email and voicemail letting people know you’re away and who to contact in your absence. 2. Get lost. Sure, detaching from your cell phone and BlackBerry may cause initial anxiety, but a few days without interruptions can be blissful. Consider get-away spots that lack wireless service — a wilderness backpacking excursion, perhaps? 3. Set boundaries. If you must check in, let people know specifically when and how you want to be contacted. 4. Hand it over. Ask a coworker to handle some of your duties, and offer to return the favor. 5. Bring in reinforcements. Bring in freelancers to take over while you’re out to prevent a backlog of projects. The Creative Group is a specialized staffing service placing creative, advertising, marketing and web professionals on a project basis. Find more information at www.creativegroup.com. |
